Ludwig Beethoven J. Noya

Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible

Biography

Dr. Ludwig Beethoven J. Noya is a biblical scholar who engages in interdisciplinary readings of biblical texts in their ancient and contemporary contexts. Born and raised in Southeast Asia (Indonesia), he completed a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible in the Southeastern U.S. (Vanderbilt University, Nashville). He has also obtained master’s degrees from Boston University and Vanderbilt University, while doing coursework as a visiting student at Harvard University, Boston College, and Tel Aviv University. For his dissertation research, Ludwig also served as a visiting research associate at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands and the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide in the UK.


Ludwig’s first monograph project reexamines Sabbath transgression narratives in the Hebrew Bible, connecting them with the Sabbath experiences in Antebellum North America and the British Colonial Global South. This monograph is under contract with Oxford University Press. Additionally, Ludwig serves as a board member of the Center and Library for the Bible and Social Justice (CLBSJ) and is the Bible Editor for the Asian American Theological Forum (AATF). Before joining Brite, he taught at Villanova University, Valparaiso University, and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
