with Dr. Ariel Feldman

In-person at Brite Divinity School
The claims that Jesus was a Jew and that the early Christian movement emerged from contemporary Judaism hardly surprise us anymore. However, how about taking these claims one logical step further? Would you agree that in order to better understand Christian Scriptures, we must know something about the ways in which Jesus’s contemporaries read and interpreted the Old Testament? This workshop invites you to explore for yourself early Jewish readings of the Hebrew Bible. We will read and discuss a variety of early Jewish texts, including the famous Dead Sea Scrolls.
Dr. Ariel Feldman is the Rosalyn and Manny Rosenthal Professor of Jewish Studies and Director of the Jewish Studies Program at Brite Divinity School and TCU. His research focuses on one of the most fascinating periods in Jewish history, the so-called Second Temple Period. He has published multiple books and articles, all of which deal with what has been described as the greatest archaeological discovery of the 20th century—the Dead Sea Scrolls
