Brite Divinity School - Harrison Building - Bass Hall 9:30 am-11am
2925 Princeton Street Fort Worth, TX 76109 (Parking and other event details to be specified on invitation)
The African-American, or the Black church has been a cornerstone of many communities, providing spiritual guidance, and social support, often serving as a hub for activism and community development.
Here are a few reasons why we believe it is important to recognize their efforts and impact:
● Historical Significance: The Black church has played a crucial role in the civil rights movement and other social justice struggles. It has provided a safe space for individuals to organize, mobilize, and advocate for change.
● Community Support: Many Black churches offer essential services to their communities, such as food banks, clothing drives, and after-school programs. These services help to address the needs of vulnerable individuals and families.
● Cultural Preservation: The Black church has been vital in preserving African American culture and traditions. Through music, art, and storytelling, it has helped to keep these traditions alive.
● Spiritual Guidance: For many African Americans, the church provides a spiritual home and a sense of belonging. It offers a place of worship, spiritual guidance, and community.
As we at Brite Divinity School continue to lean into the Spirit's call to racial justice, we also want to emphasize the importance of community support and recognition. We know that some of the most impactful cornerstones in the United States and the DFW area have been in the podium, pews, foyers, and sometimes basements of our local African-American congregations. As a Seminary that actively pursues God’s work in the world, it is a privilege to honor our local Black clergy and their impact.
Food, special music, and an encouraging program will be provided for the morning.
