Brite Divinity School President The Rev. Stephen Cady, Ph.D., was selected for induction into the 38th Martin Luther King Jr. Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College.

The annual College of Ministers & Laity is the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel’s signature program. The annual event provides an environment in which clergy and laity from diverse backgrounds engage in dialogue in the spirit of Dr. King's philosophies and ethical principles.

The induction ceremony was held on Thursday, April 11, 2024. The theme for this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers & Laity was, “Saving Democracy While Thriving in the Wake of Cosmic Trauma” will featured Professor Gary John Dorrien, PhD, Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics at Union Theological Seminary, and Professor of Religion at Columbia University, as the induction ceremony speaker. Rev. Dr. Cady began his term at Brite on March 4, 2024. Previously, he served as the Senior Minister of Asbury First United Methodist Church in Rochester, NY. During Dr. Cady’s tenure, the congregation, known for social justice, anti-poverty efforts, and LGBTQ advocacy, flourished. The congregation raised more than $8 million, to renovate, expand, and transform a historic building into a fully accessible Community Outreach Center that offers meals, showers, laundry, haircare, clothing, and healthcare to the most vulnerable of the community.
