Nurturing Hope, Practicing Resistance: Nurturing Hope, Practicing Resistance: Christian Spirituality Faces the Christian Spirituality Faces the Ecological Crisis Ecological Crisis

March 2, 2011

Tim Hessel-Robinson Alberta H. and Harold L. Lunger Assistant Professor of Spiritual Disciplines and Resources, Brite Divinity School
This seminar considers the shape of Christian spirituality in light of the current ecological crisis. Despair is a common response to news of environmental catastrophe such as the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, global climate change, or the rapid decline of biodiversity all over the planet. Drawing on the Bible, the history of Christian spirituality, and contemporary theological in- sights on science, nature, and the future of the cos- mos, we will discuss how the spiritual life sustains us in the hard work of healing our damaged planet, and fosters hope for the Earth’s future.
