Live Stream for Turning TablesBrite’s Black Church Studies will host “Turning Tables Teach-In: Strategies for Developing Christian Responses to Racialized Violence” on September 22, Monday, from 1-3:30pm in Bass Conference Center, featuring Dr. Wil Gafney and Rev. Dr. Frederick Haynes.  When Jesus overturned the tables in the temple, he went into the very center of religious authority and power and rebuked their unrighteousness. As Christians, we are called to turn over the tables of racial injustice and violence. We are called to speak truth to antiblack institutional centers of power and abuse that claim the lives of young black men and women. We recognize that our religious institutions (alongside social and political institutions) perpetuate and reinforce structural racism that need to be “turned over” and dismantled.  This event offers a teach-in to seminarians, clergy leaders, and faith-based community activists on how to develop Christian strategies and responses to racist events as seen in Ferguson and Forney.  It is a three-hour event that will feature Dr. Wil Gafney and Rev. Dr. Frederick Haynes, who will offer ways to think about Ferguson and Forney in light of scripture, preaching, ethics, and faith-based community activism.  The Teach-in will conclude with a song, prayer, and light reception. For more information and to attend, please contact Keri Day at 817-257-7584 or k.day@tcu.edu.
