    Brite Student Association Proposed Constitutional Amendments

    Proposed Changes

    1. Addition: Article 3, Section 5. GSS senator and their role in BSA.

    “This year Brite Student Association Executive Committee has been in discussion with the Graduate Student Senate of TCU about Brite Students participating in some way with GSS. In March it was announced that Brite Divinity School was granted 2 spots in GSS. Because we understand the significance of the role that our Senate members have with our TCU neighbors and Brite Divinity School students. BSA executive committee is proposing the following amendment to the BSA constitution proposing open communication between the GSS Senators that represent Brite and the Brite Student Association.”

    “Section 5. The duties and responsibilities of the Graduate Student Senate Representatives from Brite Divinity School shall consist of:

    1. Will act as voting members of Brite Student Association.
    2. Is required to attend and participate in Brite Student Association meetings.
    3. Will advocate for the needs of Brite Student Association in Graduate Student Senate meetings.
    4. Will communicate the needs of GSS to Brite Student Association. ”

    2. Change: Name of role for General Representatives to Voting Members

    Brite Student Association no longer uses the term General Representatives to signify the people on the BSA executive committee who fulfill these roles. BSA executive committee is proposing officially changing the name of this role in the BSA constitution.

    3. Addition: Article 3, Section 2, Subsection 5. Duties of the Vice-Moderator

    “Overseeing and balancing the budget of Brite Student Association”

    Every year Brite Student Association is granted a budget to use for student activities and to support other Brite student groups. In order to ensure that the budget is carefully managed every year the BSA executive committee is proposing adding a requirement to the BSA constitution which ensures that the funds are well managed and cared for. The BSA executive committee has voted to place the responsibility of this role on the Vice-Moderator.

    4. Change: Article 3, Section 3, Subsection 1. Duties of the General Secretary

    The purpose of this subsection to ensure consistent and regular communication from the BSA executive committee to the larger student body. We are proposing the following change as On the Brite Side is a no longer active publication.

    Original reads: “maintaining all Brite Student Association correspondence responsibilities, including but not limited to the official Brite Student Association newsletter On the Brite Side;”

    Change to: “maintaining all Brite Student Association correspondence responsibilities, including maintaining regular communication with the whole student body.

    5. Change: Article 6, Section 1

    The Covid-19 pandemic has required the BSA executive committee to reassess how we communicate with the student body. Because we are no longer meeting in person on the regular basis, the BSA executive committee believes it is imperative that we use social media tools available to us to foster that communication. In addition, as we return to some kind of normal we believe that we will continue to use online communication in addition to utilizing other means of communication highlighted in the constitution.

    Original reads: “Upon three-fourths (3/4) majority vote of the Executive Board of the Brite Student Association, the proposed statement will be passed for Student Body approval. A copy of the proposed change will be placed in a public place, most preferably the office of the Brite Student Association Advisor, for one week. ”

    Change to: “Upon three-fourths (3/4) majority vote of the Executive Board of the Brite Student Association, the proposed statement will be passed for Student Body approval. A copy of the proposed change will be placed in a public place, most preferably the office of the Director of Community and Spiritual Life, as well as digitally posted, for one week.
