Chapel Invitation from Dr. Joretta Marshall

September 28, 2011

I want to invite you to attend chapel and community meal next week, October 4, as we celebrate the gift from the Carpenter Foundation for an initiative in Gender, Sexuality, and Justice

The worship service will include a small display of stoles from the Shower of Stoles Project. Over 1000 stoles have been collected since 1995, representing and celebrating the gifts of LGBT persons in the church and we have been sent about 25 for our display. The Rev. Dr. Steve Sprinkle will be present (even while he is on sabbatical) to share some of his vision and ministry, Rev. Dr. Joretta Marshall will preach on “Disruptions and Beyond,” and we will share in the Lord’s Supper.

Following chapel, the Community Conversation will be led by a panel, each of whom will share their visions, hopes, and ideas for this initiative. The panel will include: Sam Castleberry (BSA chair), Tim Hessel-Robinson (Faculty member), Joretta Marshall (Faculty member and Director of the initiative), Nancy Ramsay (Academic Dean), Cody Sanders (PhD student/TRG leader), and Lara Whitley (alum, pastor and DMin student). Everyone present will be invited to offer visions, hopes and ideas.
