Carpenter Foundation Gender, Sexuality, and Justice Initiative grant for BriteJuly 21, 2011
Dear Brite Community,
I am pleased to announce that the Carpenter Foundation has awarded Brite a grant of $250,000 to fund a five year Carpenter Foundation Gender, Sexuality, and Justice Initiative to begin this 2011-2012 academic year. The Carpenter Initiative will help cover the salary costs of a faculty director, support courses at Brite that address these issues, fund programmatic initiatives each year in the wider community as well as at Brite that promote attention to these issues in church and culture, and encourage the creation of a wider network of supporters whose gifts will help sustain the continuation of these concerns. Dr. Joretta Marshall, Professor of Pastoral Theology and Pastoral Care, will serve as Director of the Carpenter Foundation Gender, Sexuality, and Justice Initiative. She will be forming an Advisory Board of faculty, staff, students, and alumnae/i. She will inaugurate the Carpenter Initiative in Chapel on October 4th.
