An Invitation for Shrove Tuesday and Ash WednesdayFebruary 15, 2010
Welcome back from Reading Week, Ministers Week, and Winter Weather Advisory Week all at once! I hope that everyone survived well the last few days of snow and ice and slush, and that everyone has electricity restored.
We have two special events in the spiritual life of Brite this week that I hope you can attend:
This Tuesday marks the end of the season of Epiphany, and our weekly chapel services resume as we continue to celebrate Black History Month and observe Shrove Tuesday (commonly known as “Fat” Tuesday). Our own Terri Young, M.Div. senior at Brite, will deliver the sermon “Willing to Worship” and we will have a special service of anointing and holy communion. The service begins at 11:00 a.m. in Robert Carr Chapel. All are invited.
This Wednesday begins the season of Lent, and our weekly Eucharist led by our Episcopal Studies Program resumes with a special Ash Wednesday service. The service will include the ancient rite of the imposition of ashes and is a most meaningful way to begin this coming season of reflection and repentance. The service begins at 12:15 p.m. in Robert Carr Chapel. All are invited.
As we resume our worship and our studies, may God continually bring light into our lives and direct us on our journeys, and may we find blessing as we each and together are anointed for ministry and service.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Rev. Michael N. Riggs
