Brite Divinity School educates women and men to lead in the ministry of Christ’s church, the academy and public life as witnesses to God’s reconciling and transforming love and justice.
Beverly Cotton joined Brite in March, 2011 as the Vice President of Business and Finance. As chief financial officer for the divinity school, she oversees Brite’s annual operating budget of more than $8.8 million and investment processes for its $75 million endowment. She also acts as a liaison to the Board of Trustees on financial, audit, and facilities management issues.
Cotton came to Fort Worth with extensive experience in higher education, including 12 years with the Texas Tech University System. She worked in audit services and as a member of CFO’s staff for the overall university system for eight of those years before joining Texas Tech’s administration and finance department in 2007.
Prior to joining the university staff, she worked as an instructor for CPA review courses and accounting instructor for Tech and Wayland Baptist University. Her financial services experience also includes work for corporations and CPA firms.
Her current volunteer activities include VITA (Volunteers in Tax) with Catholic Charities, Arborlawn United Methodist Church ministries, and she is a graduate of the 2011-2012 Leadership Fort Worth class. Previously Cotton served for five years on the Board of Pension and Health Benefits for the United Methodist Church, Northwest Texas Conference and treasurer for LakeRidge United Methodist Church for four years.
Cotton earned two undergraduate degrees in finance and accounting from Tech, as well as a master’s degree in accounting. She also completed doctoral coursework in Higher Education Administration for the Ph.D. program in education (A.B.D.).
In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, Cotton holds the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
She still makes the occasional trip back to Lubbock for Red Raider football and to see family.
